We Want More - Meraki Gardner, 2024

This body of work begins where devotion turns into documentation. We Want More is a project built from the space between art-making and fandom, where love for a band becomes both language and material. Spanning over thirty feet of wall, the installation merges portraits, memorabilia, and color fields into an environment of memory, repetition, and care.

At the center of the work are four paintings of Michael Clifford, each reflecting a different version of him as he appears through media and performance, the playful behind-the-scenes figure, the commercial persona, the electrified performer, and the abstracted self.
Surrounding these are my projects Four Frequencies and 100 Drawings, woven into a dense environment of fan memorabilia, sketches, and personal archives. The wall becomes both studio and shrine, collapsing distinctions between artist and fan, fine art and fandom. What might appear excessive or sentimental becomes a form of endurance.
We Want More is both a response and a declaration. This project was a direct response to peers wanting a "full wall" covered in my 5 Seconds of Summer work and really show what it means to be a fan. It’s about what happens when someone asks for “more,” and I let that desire expand until it becomes its own language. It’s an act of giving, of accumulation, of staying inside the moment that music first made possible, and building a space big enough to hold it.
